It’s no news to the familiar that menopause has left us with dry, dull, a little loose and thinner-looking skin, which, all the while, I’m all for embarrassing natural changes; I just feel like I shouldn’t have to take such a hit so soon. While I know a few people reach for the classic and all-time favourite Botox, I have found some alternatives that are more natural and require less maintenance than all the stuff I have done in the past.
I think with such a saturated market, it’s left me feeling both intimidated and also confused because what works anymore and what isn’t just a selling tactic to get me to buy into a product or service that we later find out doesn’t even work and makes our skin worse? I just can’t keep up with all of the trends anymore, so I caved and went to a clinic that specialised in aesthetics in Cheshire.
And when I tell you they changed my life…not only did they have the evidence to back up all of their recommendations, but they were relatable and qualified, and their skin looked amazing, and I mean bouncy, glowy, and so clear I was sold immediately.
What Treatments Did I Get?
So I began with getting a skin scanner, which essentially looked at my skin for what it was so it could see any sun damage and so forth. This told my practitioner everything she needed to know about my skin barrier and all the recommendations to help me get myself feeling like myself again, but better.
I was given a treatment plan which told me to get these treatments, why and when, and don’t worry, they weren’t trying to get me in every week for something new and it was spread out nicely because some treatments need a good 6 weeks in inbetween and so forth which I understood and I listened to the professionals.
Either way, they immediately recommended Zaffiro with HydraFacial, polynucleotides and skinboosters in between, and you might be wondering what the hell those treatments are, and I will gladly tell you.
Zaffiro
Zaffiro is a new treatment that is similar to Morpheus8, which might be more recognisable to you, but a much more non-invasive treatment with better results, essentially. If you are not sure what Zaffiro is, it uses both water peeling and thermolifting technology, which together clean, hydrate and put 5 different skin formulas into your skin; then your skin is warmed up by the thermolifting, which heats up, shrinks and stimulates the production of more collagen.
Collagen is something we lose over time, so a treatment that promotes the production of more is something I needed to give my skin that elasticity, firmness and just overall smoothness I had been losing.
Overall, I prefer this treatment over Botox because it’s less maintenance over a long period and is completely natural, which was a concern of mine because I wanted my face to look the same, just better.
Skin Boosters
This is basically like injecting moisturiser into your skin. I couldn’t deal with my dry skin anymore and no matter how much moisturiser I used, I still felt like my skin wasn’t soaking it up and was the neauvia hydro deluxe I think they gave me it, but it’s just a little something I get done in between the zaffiro facial and I just think it does exactly what it’s supposed to and gives me that little bit of a moisture boost.
Polynucleotides
I’ve always had pretty dark eyes and lines around my eyes, but with time, they’ve gotten worse, and I wanted to ask if there was anything that could be done that wasn’t filler and there was a few options I heard about before, such as that Lumi Eye, which is a skin booster but they recommend the polynucleotides, which is basically DNA from salmon, which is both odd and intrigued me!
My practitioner went on to explain that it helped with collagen production, hydration, healing dead skin cells and anti-inflammation, which is everything my under eyes needed to get rid of the darkness and ageing that I just didn’t like. The best thing about this treatment is that I saw results so soon after, and you don’t need to come back every 2 minutes. I think doing it once or twice a year will improve my results, which is so convenient, as I am such a low-maintenance person and the less I have to do, the better.
Final Thoughts
Overall, while these treatments are relatively expensive initially, they are low maintenance and have long-term benefits, which is ideal for me. If you are after natural anti-ageing results, I would recommend just going into an aesthetics place that has the experience and that you can connect with and trust, as they will give you the most honest and helpful advice for your unique needs, which is what truly transformed my menopause skin experience.
