It’s inevitable, our jowls start to droop. Other things droop as well, but let’s stick with jowls for now. For the most part, the major treatment that is recommended by professionals is Botox, but as The Beauty Shaman, I’m interested in non-toxic methods to help lift the jowls and tighten muscles as we age. Before we discuss strategies, let’s remember to love our bodies unconditionally! We are programmed to hate our bodies and that aging is bad, but I don’t agree with this mindset. Your body needs love, encouragement, and care, so keep that in mind as we go through options.
It’s All About Connective Tissue
At it very basic, aging is a deterioration of the connective or epithelial tissue. In order to age well, you need to focus on strengthening your connective tissues, which boils down to certain techniques for health. 80% of skin health is internal, and 20% is external, therefore, that is the measure of attention you pay to those separate but connected areas. With that in mind, taking and/or eating proteins rich in collagen, drinking bone broth, taking vitamin C, essential fatty acids like Omega 3 and 6, and eating organic, nourishing leafy greens in high quantities will have an unmistakable effect on your skin. For a baseline, consider eating around four cups of greens daily along with drinking fresh spring water (64 ounces).
External Techniques
As you build your connective tissue, work externally to encourage cell turnover with exfoliation. Things like microdermabrasion, acid-peels, laser treatments, etc., help to slightly damage the surface layer of the skin, and therefore encourage the skin to create new cells. It’s like using resistance training to become fit. The added weights damage the muscle, and while the muscle is healing, your body becomes leaner. It’s fitness for the face!
You can also do facial massage to strengthen the muscles, as well as use a microcurrent machine either at the esthetician, or at home with a home machine like the NRGY Device from Truth Treatments. With continued use, a micro current machine will help strengthen the muscles and tighten your jowl area. At the same time, use great skin (according to your budget) and especially a great vitamin C topical serum like Transdermal C Serum with 80% vitamin C.
None of these solutions are a quick fix, however; they do mean improvement that you can see and that lasts! What you decide to do is up to you, just remember no matter what you do, to send loving messages to your skin and body. The body cannot heal itself if it is inundated with negative messages. Healing is, at its core, a loving a positive experience that your body wants to do for you.
