HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOUR SKIN CARE IS WORKING?
WHAT ARE THE BENCHMARKS OF EFFICACIOUS SKIN CARE?
There are SO MANY different types of skin care on the market today. With the upswing in health awareness, clean/non-toxic cosmetics and skin care are taking center stage. Because of this, more and more skin care lines are using the clean beauty catchphrase to attract customers and sales. The downside to this shift is that an apple is not necessarily an apple.
What do I mean by this? Have you ever gone to the grocery store and saw apples that look so juicy and red that you can’t wait to chomp into one? With this in mind, you buy those apples, take them home, rinse one off, and take a bite, but it tastes like water. All the expectations and sales strategy’s telling you of the deliciousness of the apple came to nothing! To take it even further, maybe you’ve been eating the shiny apple for so long, that you thought that apples taste like water. Then, one day, you taste an organic apple grown on a neighbors’ farm, untouched by chemicals and you are stunned! It’s so sweet! You realize that you never really tasted apples before. It’s like this with so many things in life, as well as in using products with active ingredients. How do you know if your skin care will give you the results you want?
Ben Fuchs, creator of Truth Treatments Skin Care, is one of the most knowledgeable and articulate people I know on the subject of the skin and the skin care industry. He knows what makes skin care deliver the results you want. In this interview on The Beauty Shaman, I interview him on how to know if your skincare is actually helping with things like hydration, anti-aging, etc. The question I give to Ben on how to know if your using quality skin care stems from a recent line I was asked to review. As I sampled it and researched the ingredients, I learned several things about deceptive advertising. The line advertised clean, non-toxic, organic, and life changing skin care packed full of active ingredients like vitamin C, D, E, etc. Upon closer examination, though, the so called active ingredients were listed so far down the ingredient deck as to be rendered inconsequential! In fact, there was so little quantity of effective ingredients that the line was basically ineffective.
It doesn’t really matter if the product says it’s organic, the important and most crucial ingredients are in the top 3-5 spots on the ingredient list. Even if the deck is stacked with lovely sounding, feeling, and smelling ingredients, as a consumer you need to look beyond that into the genuine efficacy of the skin care product. Read labels! In this interview, Ben Fuchs goes into this and discusses it at length. It’s a fascinating journey and one that every consumer needs to listen to.
